A disability can mean many different things.  A person can be disabled by a disease or a condition.  They could also become disabled from being in a car accident and being injured.  There are many people who claim to be mentally disabled because they suffer from a Bi-polar disorder or even mental illness.  When most of us think of a disability, we think about what is it about us that keeps us from working in the work force with the rest of the hard working Americans.  Nobody anticipates an illness or injury to prevent them from earning wages to support themselves and their family.  Filing for disability is not an easy program to qualify for.  There have been so many people in the past that have taken advantage of the system and falsely filed disability claims.  Now, the government has made it more difficult to be eligible for disability benefits.

There are many people who are clearly in need of their disability earnings, yet get turned down.  After you are turned down the first time for disability, you should contact an attorney who can do the leg work for you in receiving the benefits you have earned by paying into your social security. Find a lawyer who will not charge you any fees for their services unless you collect your benefits. Mos of the time, you will get a back payment from the government from the time you filed for disability up until the point that you are granted it.  Your attorney will then, take a percentage of that back payment to pay for his fees.  You should always expect to get denied the first time you apply for disability.  Do not let it discourage you though.  If you are clearly eligible for your benefits then pursue what is necessary to get them.
